King’s College London invites prospective postgraduate students to a specialist Masterclass from the Department of Natural, Mathematical, and Engineering Sciences.
Led by Dr Dan Nicolau Jr, Programme Director, this session will explore whether large language models (LLMs) can reflect on their own reasoning, the scientific implications of this question, and what it means to study and apply AI in the scientific fields – whether in research or industry contexts.
A certificate of attendance will be provided to the participants.
About the Masterclass
LLMs are transforming research and scientific discovery, yet questions remain: Can they evaluate their own reasoning? How should scientists interpret and validate these systems?
This Masterclass will introduce emerging research in AI introspection, situating it within broader scientific and interdisciplinary applications.

Dr. Dan Nicolau Jr – Programme Director, MSc Artificial Intelligence for Science
Dr. Nicolau is a mathematician, engineer, and physician. He completed his DPhil in Mathematics and medical degree at Oxford and was a Miller Postdoctoral Fellow at UC Berkeley. His research focuses on computational approaches to understanding complex biological systems, including disease and ageing.
