The Master of Pharmacy (MPharm) is a master’s degree which lasts four years. The program is perfect for students who are interested in the chemistry of medicinal drugs, how they interact with our body and their use and side effects. An MPharm degree in the UK can lead to careers as a pharmacist, academic or industry researcher, or even a drug safety monitor.

If you are looking to practice as a pharmacist in the UK, international students must complete a four-year MPharm degree, a pre-registration year, and then pass the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC) pre-registration exam.

Canadian students wishing to practice in Canada will need to qualify with the Pharmacy Examining Board of Canada (PEBC)*. Students’ UK MPharm degree will be evaluated by the PEBC, followed by a Pharmacist Evaluating Examination. Students will then need to fulfill any requirements set by their principal College of Pharmacists before completing the Pharmacist Qualifying Examination.

High School Subjects: A qualification in Chemistry is essential, and you’ll also need at least one other science-related subject, such as Biology, Mathematics, or Physics. Some universities may give preference to students with both Chemistry and Biology.

International Baccalaureate (IB): A typical offer is 34 points, with higher-level subjects including Chemistry and another science.

Canadian High School Diplomas: Canadian provincial high school qualifications are accepted. For example, in Ontario, students may be required to achieve an Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD) with an average of 85% or higher in six Grade 12 U/M courses, including Chemistry and another science. Requirements vary slightly by province and institution.
